Since 2023, the Irene Muronji Foundation Football Tournament has become THE premier football event in Bungoma County, growing from 12 elite teams to including women’s football and bigger prizes! With over KES 300,000 in total prizes awarded last season and full uniforms provided to all participating teams – this is more than a tournament, it’s a community institution.
2023: The Beginning of a Legacy
The inaugural 2023 tournament saw twelve of Webuye’s finest teams battle for glory at D.E.B Primary School and Panpaper Stadium. After intense group stages and thrilling quarter-finals, Webuye Sportif FC emerged as the first-ever champions, lifting the trophy and claiming KES 100,000, while Compel FC took home KES 50,000 as runners-up. Every team received full playing uniforms and participation cash prizes, setting a new standard for community tournaments.
2024: Growing Bigger & Better
Building on our success, the 2024 edition made history by introducing women’s football to the tournament! Teams like Muji FC Ladies, Flyover FC Ladies, Chetambe FC Ladies, and Super Eagles FC Ladies showcased incredible talent alongside the men’s competition. Webuye Sportif FC defended their title, while Silungai FC claimed the runners-up position in a tournament that saw even more teams, more excitement, and more community engagement.
